Hey all. Oh my goodness, I have TONS to catch up on! And today’s not even finished!

Monday. I had color photo. We had a critique, it was fun. Some kids are already really good at color balancing! I am jealous, mine tend to be too magenta. And some pictures were already really good, oh man, I’m excited as much as color printing is REALLY frustrating and time consuming right now. We had to bring in some of our old work, so I just grabbed my whole portfolio, and I stayed after and showed my teacher what I had, which was really fun because she was happy to see it because she wants to get a better idea of what we’re all doing, what we like to do and stuff. So that was cool! Because I’m really proud of my portfolio thus far. This week, I’m not actually sure what the homework is, but I’ll be taking pictures and developing them on Friday as always. Me, Taryn, and Susanna are going to go do some photo shoots around the city, it should be good fun.

Then I had world civ. which I didn’t finish the reading for, but oh well. That’s the class at the bottom of my list right now. We have an essay due next week, either on Brunelleschi and how he typifies the Renaissance, or explaining what caused the cultural outburst that was the Renaissance. Michele’s section had a tiny quiz. I am jealous. But she said she’d help me on my essay. I guess I’ll do it Saturday,..

I don’t remember what else happened Monday. I know we made a smoothie for breakfast (yum). Oh yeah, and I almost didn’t go to the gym, but Michele made me, and I thank her for that. I tired to take one of my digital pictures, but it didn’t work out, so I’m slowly cracking away at them. I took one yesterday, but it also didn’t work out, but we did one this morning and I am pleased with it. So we’ll get em done, they’re not due for another week from Friday, so I’m good. I do need to go into the lab and print a picture for this week, however. I’ll do that tomorrow (I have no other choice, do I? Considering class is on Friday morning).

In the evening, I printed my heart out. It was fun fun. Then I met up with my friend Tudor and we hung out for a while. Unfortunately, the discussion turned to religion, which was my fault because I wanted to bring it up to clarify some things. But then it went on forever, and it made me pretty uncomfortable but I didn’t really care about a lot of what he was saying. That’s mean. Let me rephrase. I cared to listen and I’m interested in what he has to say, but I really don’t believe in it, and it’s coming from a person who wholey believes he is right, so it’s like ahhhh! But anyway.

Tuesday… I went to the gym in the morning and then JSU for lunch. We were building the Sukkah, which has to be built for a week and then there’s a party in it at the end of the week. It’s a Jewish holiday called Sukkos, and I’d never heard of it, and I don’t know much about it at this point. But sadly for me, it wasn’t really a class cuz people were busy building. And we had pizza, and I had a piece, and it was delicious. So then I ate salad for dinner, of course.

Then I had Black and White photo. Only 4 people brought in work, and a lot of people were missing. I know a few kids dropped it. Overall, it’s not going too well, but I love black and white, so I still get a kick out of simply doing my own thing. He let us out early because there were only a few people to crit, so I stayed after and discussed my project with him and such. My project, I may have told you, is intimate portraiture. It’s pretty neat because in the color class the day before, I had to put up 3 old pieces, and I was thinking, “what three pieces will represent the work I do?” and then I realized I have 3 main themes that run in my work: Nature(ish), Intimate Portraits, and Mysterious. The nature stuff is by far what I want to do in color, and the mysterious stuff happens on it’s own. So that left, making perfect sense, portraits for black and white, especially considering that’s a lot of what I already had and was printing. I’ve pretty much printed everything I want to from the negatives I have right now, so now I really have no other excuse but to take take take. Michele is going to be my main subject since I spend time with her the same way I spent time with people who have been in the portraits I’ve already taken. I’m going to represent people I take pictures of not just through their faces, but also hands, sure, and their stuff and environment. I have about 12 pieces for the project so far, it’s due in 2 weeks. Our next project is going to be telling a story through pictures, I think, which is also my next project in color. How you tell a story through pictures. I’m a little nervous about that kind of project, so I hope for both classes it is explained better, which I’m sure it will be.

I need to post pictures!

Then… what did I do? Oh yeah, me and Michele went to see a screening of a movie on campus called Helvetica. It was about type-faces (fonts), specifically Helvetica. It was a documentary, pretty funny because there are a lot of characters who design type for a living :) It was pretty good, I’d recommend it because it was interesting and was a new way of looking at the world. It was good, see it if you come across it.

Okay, I’ll save writing about today for later tonight. For now, I’m gunna try to get those pictures I haven’t showed you yet posted. :)

Oh, and if anyone has any book suggestions for world civ, that would be amazing! I need to pick a book by next week, and I want to do something on the Renaissance. Help!
